The History of St. Hilary's
1927 - 1950

St.Hilary's continued to thrive under Miss Adcock's and Miss Gliddon's guidance but unfortunately Miss Byrom died in 1941.

In 1944 they bought a house called 'Kingsbury' and used it to house the under 8's. This was sold in 1948 and the Junior Department moved to 'Hurst Lea'.

The School had experienced the inevitable shortages of books, paper and even desks during the Second World War. The onset of rationing reduced supper to bread and cheese, followed by bread and jam!

In 1950 Miss Adcock and Miss Gliddon retired from active School life but remained as Principals, still owning the School.

They had presided happily over St.Hilary's through many eventful years, during which the School more than double in size, yet still retaining its essential character - each girl being treated as an individual and not just part of a crowd.
